Research Subject

Laser cooled neutral atoms have opened a novel research area where a variety of physical parameters such as potential shape, depth and even atom-atom collisional interaction can be tuned. While the neutral atoms do not feel Lorentz force, it is theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated that the corresponding vector potential can be created by using Berry phase through an interaction between atoms and light fields. Recently, our group have succeeded in visualizing an individual Yb atom in each site by using an atomic gas microscope with a solid immersion lens. In this project, we try to observe and investigate non-equilibrium phenomena for cold Yb and Eu atoms by using the artificial gauge field and the atomic gas microscope.
